We’re putting together a fresh edition of Mixtapes!, the series where musicians create an on-the-spot playlist based on our ridiculous prompts. This episodes finds The Beaches reaching into our bowl-o-prompts and spitting out hits.
Before taking to the road for the new leg of their tour (get tickets here) supporting their third album, No Hard Feelings, Canadian quartet The Beaches joined us at Gold-Diggers Sound in LA to put together our latest Mixtapes! playlist. From bumping into Jeremy Allen White to getting a text from an ex, the band has just the right song for every situation. Check out The Beaches make the playlist of our dreams above, and listen to it in full below or via Spotify.
The members of The Beaches — Jordan Miller (vocals/bass), Kylie Miller (guitar), Leandra Earl (keyboards/ guitar,), and Eliza Enman-McDaniel (drums) — were so on the ball with their song choices that their Mixtapes! is almost a double album! They’re quick to name Charli XCX’s “365” as the soundtrack to the best night ever, while the singer’s “360” is their perfect choice to get the party started. As for walkout music, Led Zeppelin’s “Immigrant Song” would be their tag-team wrestling entrance jam, while they’d put on Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton’s “Islands in the Stream” for Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s first walk down the aisle as married couple.
They also sneak in a few of their own songs — for fitting reasons. Leandra’s sex dream about Jeremy Allen White was the impetus for The Beaches’ “Touch Myself,” so of course that’s what plays when they finally meet the actor. Then, Jordan has an easy answer for a fan thanking The Beaches for helping them come out with their music: “‘Lesbian of the Year’ is specifically written about that very specific thing,” she says.
Check out The Beaches’ full Mixtapes! — which includes songs by Metric, Demi Lovato, Lily Allen, The Doors, and even Lou Bega — by watching the video above or via YouTube. Find the band’s complete Spotify playlist below.
