Dave Franco is aware of his resemblance to Luigi Mangione, and while he hasn’t been approached in any official capacity, he’s “open” to playing the alleged assassin in a biopic.
“More people in my life reached out about this exact thing than anything else that has ever happened,” he told Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live. “So let’s just say I’m open if it’s the right people, and let’s leave it at that.” If he sounded hesitant, it might because Franco is 40 while Mangione is 27, but never say never, and if the “right people” called — with or without the right paycheck — he won’t hang up.
Mangione is awaiting trial for killing Brian Thompson, UnitedHealthcare CEO, after his arrest in Altoona, PA following a nationwide manhunt. He faces four federal charges and 11 from the state. A 262-page manifesto was reported among his belongings, and he has become something of a folk hero among the younger and more online. Mangione’s social media use suggested someone “independent” but not necessarily moderate, anti-Trump and anti-Biden, pro-AI but anti-smartphone, and following figures from Elon Musk to AOC to JFK Jr.
Franco is currently promoting his new horror film Together with his wife Allison Brie. Later this year he’ll appear in Now You See Me, Now You Don’t, the third installment in the hit franchise that dared to ask, what if Vegas-style magicians were functionally superheroes?
